About
Micah Miller is an award-winning trumpeter, vocalist, composer, and educator currently based in Denver, Colorado. He performs and writes in a variety of musical settings in the classical and contemporary jazz realms, and enjoys collaborating with other musicians in a myriad of styles. Micah performs across the Front Range as a band leader as well as a sideman, having played with groups including the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra, the Ben Markley Big Band, and the Wyoming Symphony. He has been fortunate enough to share the stage with many phenomenal artists and people, including Greg Gisbert, Ben Markley, Wil Swindler, Arturo Sandoval, Bobby McFerrin, and Tatiana Mayfield. In 2023, Micah released his debut album as a bandleader, Why Not Here?, as well as an album of Western-themed music for brass quintet with the University of Wyoming Faculty Brass Quintet titled Western Excursions.

Micah earned his Master of Arts Degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Wyoming in May of 2023, where he studied with Ben Markley, David Wharton, and Anne Guzzo. He completed a Bachelors of Music Degree with a double emphasis in Jazz Trumpet and Jazz Voice at the University of Northern Colorado in May of 2020, studying with Greg Gisbert and Kerry Marsh. He currently teaches Applied Trumpet at Regis University in Denver.

As a composer, Micah explores a number of different musical styles and settings. In January 2023, his big band piece Well I Can Do That Too was awarded an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Composition at the Jack Rudin Competition at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and in 2020 his composition Themes from Mountain Scenes won the ARTCORE New Music competition. Micah is constantly diversifying as a composer, with a portfolio including works for instrumentation ranging from solo trumpet to Pierrot Ensemble to small and large jazz ensembles.

Micah is dedicated to championing creativity, inclusivity, and expression in contemporary music. He is available for lessons, commissions, and performances as a jazz or classical trumpeter.
